Blue Mythos #3: The Beginning & Now

So what's the story behind The Blue Mist Universe? So glad you asked, well in this installment of "Blue Mythos", we're gonna breakdown the beginning of things to where they are now. Let's dive in!

The first Mage was a man named Arden Dansk. Now just to clarify, Arden Dansk was the 1st Mage, NOT the first person to ever learn or utilize The Mist, Arden Dansk was the 1st person who articulated the practice of using The Mist and turned it into an actual teachable practice. Arden Dansk taught many people and his practices of Magic became the gold standard on how to train others. Arden had many students but one of his most notable students was a man named Kale Harra. Kale learned how to use The Mist quickly by absorbing it into himself, Kale quickly became The 1st Dark Mage. Believing he surpassed his teacher, Kale amassed an army showing himself to be much more powerful than Arden Dansk and his methods. Many kingdoms attempted to assassinate Kale before he entered their kingdom, but Kale had learned the ability to steal the life force from others thus increasing his own and making him stronger and more capable of controlling the raw Mist within his body. Because of his ability to drain life from others, Kale earned the name Kale The Life Breaker.

The Kingdoms at that time were divided but quickly united under the banner of the larger Kingdom Of Soulcress (Kale's final target) in what is called The Dark War. With their combined forces and many new Mages under Arden's leadership and the armies of many nations behind him, Kale and his hordes were defeated. With Kale defeated, The Nations banded together and wrote THE CHARTER OF MAGIC. Which is a list of rules and regulations all the nations agreed on in order to assure that further Magic use would be conducted safely and for the benefit of all. Arden lived for many years as his use of Light Magic replenished his own health and life span and he trained many other mages, his best students were The 5.

The 5 were Caliglio Callastro a Human, Renzo Yilvis a Human of Morian descent, Lyga Bestranomus an Elf, Tezzin Maereth a Heltheon, and Ghodan Temple a Warlock. Despite Arden being the 1st Mage, The 5 are the most notable mages in the History of Magic. When Arden passed, The 5 took the reigns of Arden's teachings and perfected Arden's teachings and expanded on it. In real world terms, Arden Dansk would be Plato & Socrates, The 5 would be The Renaissance. In order to insure the teachings of magic would adhere to The Charter Of Magic, The 5 erected The Hall Of Mages and used that as a centralized school of magic where all Mages learned in magic would go to teach or be taught. They created The Legendary Attacks and established the ranking for Mages and the criteria to determine a Mage Master. Meanwhile a man named Aran Saal rose a kabal of Dark Mages and once again war was waged on The Nations in The 2nd Dark War. Aran Saal proved to be powerful, however Caliglio managed to channel enough Mist to perform the greatest attack ever, "The Caliglio Illustrato" (in Elvish "The Caliglio Destruction").

The Caliglio Illustrato proved insanely powerful and was declared to be used ONLY as a last resort. With the war over The 5 left the teaching to others and retired to a fortress called "Han Phota" (Elvish for "The Power"). There they sat down and wrote all 3 volumes of The Mages primary teaching text "Works Of Mages". Within these texts are instructions on how to perform feats of Magic as well as wisdom accumulated from Arden Dansk and many others. Upon graduating from The Hall Of Mages, many Mages sought the teachings of The 5 to become great mages, but many could not last under their harsh methods. Among their most notable students was a human named Teru Tamaku, a Karafin named Tarco Nazzorelli and a Warlock named Karo Kathijrell. These 3 proved exemplary and had access to The 5's wisdom 1st hand and trained exclusively at Han Phota.

The Nations became unstable when The Maracain hordes (under new leadership, ashamed of their defeat in previous wars) decided to attack Soulcress once again, The Nations, along with The 5 and their students fought valiantly and defeated The Maracains, finally securing a treaty with them that would ensure peace. When the war was over, Karo soon discovered an ancient text written by Kale and studied it. Karo soon learned that Kale was on the brink of unlocking the key to immortality. Karo began to use Dark Magic in secret but was soon discovered and expelled from Han Phota.

Many years later, when The 5 were now well aged, Karo Kathijrell returned and laid siege on Han Phota and his former mentors. Karo lost the battle but it didn't matter as he amassed an army of the undead upon The Nations. This was the toughest war because Karo's soldiers were already dead and therefore felt no pain and had no strategy aside from continuous attacks and even suicide bombings. Karo then revealed himself as an undead and although not immortal Karo was invincible. The combined efforts of The 5, Tamaku, Tarco and many other mages managed to push back Karo's undead hordes and through sheer force of will, Tamaku managed to greatly de-power Karo. Before a kill strike could be done, Karo teleported away and hadn't been seen since. The 5 wrote "The Combat Diaries" detailing their battles with Kale the Life Breaker, Aran Saal, The Maracain Hordes & Karo Kathijrell calling him "The most diabolical Mage ever." for his brazen use of the dead as servants in his army.

The 5 wrote many other books before they passed but The Nations enjoyed peace for a long time and many Mages began to branch and use The Mist in other facets aside from combat. Not to say that other uses of The Mist weren't explored before, but during this time of peace more Mages could explore those options. But that peace was short lived when Sophos Garindin, a Dragon who studied Dark Magic and was also a servant of Kale's in the past, killed The Dragon King Malachi and claimed the throne himself. Sophos attacked Soulcress with a horde of Dragons at his command. The Dragon War lasted for a long time and many lives were lost. Finally, Tarco faced off against Sophos Garindin and managed to best him in combat. However, instead of killing Sophos, Tarco used his powers to thrust him into an interdimensional prison. With Sophos gone and unable to give orders, The Dragons retreated and fought until a new king was crowned.

For his bravery and mercy, Tarco was declared Tarco The Great and the savior of Soulcress. Much like The 5, Tarco is sought after by many mages upon graduation but fail under his harsh methods. At the start of The Blue Mist game, it had been MANY years since then and now The Hall Of Mages is turning out young mages willing to use their abilities to serve humanity and all the nations are at peace. But little do they know that one professor, Amuka Darianine is recruiting his own kabal of Dark Mages and preparing to take over The Kingdom Of Soulcress once again...
